Sorry brand professionals, Jeffrey Crouse wants to obliterate your precious corporate logos from everyday life–or at least that portion of everyday life that happens to be captured on video. He calls his idea Unlogo, the Corporate Identity Media Filter.
While laboring on “computer vision work for companies and bands and fashion labels” Crouse figured out how to train a computer to recognize logos in a video feed, with the goal of inserting logos into scenes where they didn’t exist.
“It felt kind of like a waste of technology. Then I thought, if I could train a computer to recognize logos for the sake of making the brand more ubiquitous, why not train it to erase them completely?”
While the Unlogo is still in development, Crouse predicts the service will block logos that appear in your videos with solid color or be replaced with other images. His sample video blocks each logo with the disembodied head of the CEO of the company!

Crouse says his work “playfully comments on the role of technology in our lives,” so it is a bit unclear if this is a serious product or a social satire. In any case, he is attempting to crowdsource funding for the project on Kickstarter.
